In Kuwait, crochet, knitting and all manner of crafts are common. Most moms turn to sewing and crocheting as tools for their children to teach and learn. Crocheting, kneading and craftsmanship can also be perfect ways to relax, learn new skills or just have fun.
Kuwait has lots of sewing, crocheting and knitting tools but not all are easy to find. We’ve put together a handy list of tools for Kuwaiti moms who like baking, crocheting or knitting, sewing, painting, arranging or otherwise making flowers or baskets.

Places to buy yarn and crafting supplies:

Barakat Trading Company – Among the most popular and well known, Barakat carries a wide array of craft supplies, art and paint supplies, yarn, crochet and knitting needles, embroidery thread, fabrics, ribbons and more. Located in Salmiya, just off Hamad al Mubarak Street, it also has a loyalty card where you can earn credit toward future purchases. There is a second Barakat located in Egaila.

Swaad al Damkhi – In the plaza just next to Barakat, smaller shop but has great prices and a good selection of crochet and knitting supplies as well as yarns. There are several small yarn shops in this plaza so be sure to explore these shops as many do not have signs or aren’t well known.

It’s an emporium of crafting with ribbons, buttons, felt, baskets, boxes, fake flowers, picture frames, baby announcement and birthday party decorations, fabrics, pom poms and more. (Thanks Ghada for the tips, information and directions.)
